While conducting research on a novel technology that could improve the lives of cancer patients and diabetics, a team of scientists at the Fox Chase Cancer Center in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania discovered the presence of 3-deoxyglucosone (3DG) in skin. The NIH-funded research uncovered the link between 3DG, skin aging, collagen depletion, and loss of skin elasticity. The Fox Chase scientists then discovered how to control 3DG.
